Your monthly donations to Lebanon County Christian Ministries are critical."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"blog-content\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"wsite-image wsite-image-border-none\" style=\"padding-top:10px;padding-bottom:10px;margin-left:0;margin-right:0;text-align:center\">\n<a><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Picture\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lccm.us\/uploads\/1\/2\/5\/2\/125258056\/neighborhood_orig.png\" style=\"width:auto;max-width:100%\"\/><\/a>\n<div style=\"display:block;font-size:90%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align:center;\">\n<div style=\"height: 10px; overflow: hidden;\"><\/div><a class=\"wsite-button wsite-button-small wsite-button-normal\" href=\"https:\/\/lp.constantcontact.com\/su\/oDdxNSh\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"wsite-button-inner\">Subscribe to our e-newsletter<\/span><\/a>\n<div style=\"height: 10px; overflow: hidden;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph\">\n<br\/>\nThe holiday season is a time of giving, reflecting and renewal.<br\/>\n\u00a0<br\/>\nFor many people it\u2019s a time to be surrounded by family and friends in a warm home, giving and receiving gifts, feasting on delicious meals and giving to those who need it most.<br\/>\n\u00a0<br\/>\nAnd Lebanon County Christian Ministries is one of the local organizations that helps those who need it most.<br\/>\n\u00a0<br\/>\nNearly 37% of households in Lebanon County lack the income to cover the costs of basic necessities such as food, housing, transportation and child care, according to the United Way of Pennsylvania.<br\/>\n\u00a0<br\/>\nThe United Way calls <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedforalice.org\/post\/more-than-a-third-of-pennsylvanians-don-t-make-enough-to-pay-for-food-housing-report\">them \u201cALICE\u201d households \u2014 short for \u201cAsset-Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed.&#8221;<\/a><br\/>\n<br\/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedforalice.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">ALICE<\/a> is a new way of defining and understanding the struggles of households that earn above the Federal Poverty Level, but not enough to afford a bare-bones household budget, according to the United Way.<br\/>\n\u00a0<br\/>\nAs the United Way explains,\u00a0 ALICE is your child care worker, the cashier at your grocery store, the retail employee at a big box store, a warehouse employee, waitress, home health aide, and so on.<br\/>\n\u00a0<br\/>\nWhile more than a third of households in Lebanon County struggle to afford basic necessities, 59% of households in Lebanon city are struggling to make ends meet \u2013 37% of which fall into the ALICE category and 22% are living below the Federal Poverty Level.<br\/>\n<br\/>\nMeanwhile, the unemployment rate in Lebanon County in September was just 3.5%.<br\/>\n<br\/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitedforalice.org\/consequences\" target=\"_blank\">Read about the Consequences of Insufficient Household Income<\/a><br\/>\n\u00a0<br\/>\nThis means Lebanon County\u2019s underpaid workforce \u2013 which is filling a critical need in our local economy \u2013 is struggling because the cost of living is outpacing what they earn, according to the United Way.<br\/>\n\u00a0<br\/>\nAs the ALICE report puts it:<br\/>\n\u00a0<br\/>\n\u201cWorking families are still struggling due to the mismatch between the basic cost of living and the wages\u00a0of many jobs across the state, exacerbated by\u00a0systemic inequities in opportunity and wealth.\u201d<br\/>\n\u00a0<br\/>\n<strong>By making an affordable, automatic tax-deductive gift each month, you can help Lebanon County Christian Ministries address the immediate needs of thousands of Lebanon County residents who are struggling to make ends meet.<br\/>\n\u00a0<\/strong><br\/>\nAnd LCCM\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lccm.us\/monthly-giving.html\" target=\"_blank\">Love Your Neighbor<\/a> campaign allows you to do just that.<br\/>\n<br\/>\nLCCM has a vision of creating a community of passionate, monthly givers who want to make a lasting commitment to provide emergency services to individuals and families in Lebanon County.<br\/>\n\u00a0<br\/>\nThis mission includes providing food, shelter, clothing, heating and water bill assistance, the summer food program for children, sponsoring the daily free noon meal, and administering the USDA\u2019s federal government surplus food program (TEFAP) and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP).
